Lawrence J. Albers, MD is associate clinical professor of psychiatry and human
behavior at the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine. He also
is acting chief of the Mental Health Care Group for the Long Beach VA Healthcare
System. Recently, he was elected a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric
Association.
Dr. Albers earned his bachelors degree in psychology, and graduated Phi Beta
Kappa from the University of California, Los Angeles. He subsequently received
his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine,
and completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of California, Irvine.
He was voted Teacher-of-the-Year by the psychiatry residents at the University
of California, Irvine, and is a recipient of the West Coast College of Biological
Psychiatry Faculty Research Award. He has been the principal investigator or
co-investigator of various clinical trials of mood and psychotic disorders with
an emphasis on drug-drug interactions.
Dr. Albers has published numerous articles on psychopharmacology, and is co-author
of two books on psychiatry and psychiatric drugs titled, Current Clinical Strategies.
His primary research interest is in pharmacogenetics and he has been a member
of the planning committee for two international meetings of the Pacific Rim
Association for Clinical Pharmacogenetics. His current clinical focus is in
the treatment of refractory mood and anxiety disorders.
