John B. Buse, MD, PhD, CDE, is an Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology
at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Dr. Buse is a diabetologist for UNC Diabetes Care Center, for First Health of
the Carolinas Family Care Centers in Ellerbe, North Carolina, and for the Salem
Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In addition, Dr. Buse us a consultant
for both TheraSense and Takeda Pharmaceuticals America, Inc. and is associate
editor of Diabetes Care.
In 1979, Dr. Buse earned his AB in biochemistry from Dartmouth College in Hanover,
New Hampshire, graduating cum laude. He received his MD and PhD from Duke University
in Durham, North Carolina in 1986. Dr. Buse's postgraduate training includes
a pre-doctoral fellowship at Joslin Diabetes Center. He was an intern, resident,
and Chief Resident in internal medicine and subsequently an endocrine fellow
and faculty member at the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Buse has published numerous book chapters, reviews, and articles pertaining
to various aspects of diabetes in journals including: Current Opinion in
Endocrinology and Diabetes, Diabetes Spectrum, and The American Journal
of Medicine. He is also Associate Editor of Diabetes Care. His professional
affiliations are: the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the
American College of Physicians, the American Diabetes Association, the American
Federation for Clinical Research, and the Endocrine Society.
