Kathryn M. Connor, MD is assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and research director of the Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Program at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

After receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Dr. Connor earned her doctorate of medicine from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. She completed an internship in internal medicine at York Hospital in York, Pa. Following a residency in psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Connor was a fellow in clinical psychopharmacology at Duke University. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Connor has served as principal investigator or co-investigator of many clinical trials sponsored by national organizations, federal agencies, and industry. Her work includes the study of the phenomenology, assessment and treatment of mood and anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety disorder, specific phobia, performance anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression. Her research has included treatment trials of novel pharmacologic agents, psychosocial treatments, dietary supplements, and conventional and alternative treatments for mood and anxiety disorders.

She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants including a career development award from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) to study botanical treatments for social anxiety. Dr. Connor also serves as a member of the data and safety monitoring board for NCCAM and for an international study of ginkgo biloba in dementia.

Dr. Connor has authored or co-authored more than 50 articles, book chapters, and two books, most recently a book titled, Herbs for the Mind. She speaks on a national and international basis and has given interviews on radio and television. She is a member of several professional organizations, among them the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, and the Society of Biological Psychiatry.
