Dr. Robert W. Downs, Jr. graduated from Duke University School of Medicine,
Durham, North Carolina and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Barnes
Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, and an Endocrinology fellowship at the National
Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland. At the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia
Commonwealth University, Dr. Downs has served as a member of the Graduate Faculty,
Director of Clinical Curriculum, and Associate Director of Research for the
VCU Institute for Women's Health. Dr. Downs is currently Professor of Medicine
and Associate Chairman of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and
Director of the MCV Physicians Program for Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment.
Dr. Downs is the author or co-author of numerous scientific publications as
well as a reviewer for several leading medical journals, including JAMA and
the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. An active member of many
community organizations as well as professional societies, Dr. Downs is currently
on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the International Society for Clinical
Densitometry.
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology/Metabolism, he is listed
as one of the Best Doctors in America, a directory of the top one percent
of physicians in the United States as rated by their peers. Dr. Downs' clinical
specialization and research interests include: Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone
Diseases.
