Milton K. Erman, MD is clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at
the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, and a research
scientist in the Department of Neuropharmacology at The Scripps Research Institute
in La Jolla, Calif. As president of Pacific Sleep Medicine Services, Dr. Erman
operates sleep disorders centers throughout southern California.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from Columbia College and his medical
degree from New York University, both in New York City, Dr. Erman completed
residency training in psychiatry and a fellowship in consultation/liaison psychiatry
at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Dr. Erman is a member of several professional organizations, including the
American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and
the California Psychiatric Association. He is a fellow of both the American
Psychiatric Association and the American Board of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Erman
has served on the board of directors of the National Sleep Foundation, The American
Sleep Disorders Association, and as secretary/treasurer and national chairman
of the accreditation committee for the American Sleep Disorders Association.
He is the author of more than 140 publications dealing primarily with sleep
disorders medicine, and with interactions between psychiatric illness and sleep.
His work is published in journals such as The American Journal of Psychiatry,
Drug Therapy, The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Human Psychopharmacology,
Sleep Medicine, Chest, Biological Psychiatry, and Sleep.
