Roland R. Griffiths, PhD is professor of behavioral biology in the Departments
of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Griffiths earned his doctorate degree in psychology with
a minor in pharmacology at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
He is the recipient of the Brady-Schuster Award for outstanding behavioral
science research in psychopharmacology and substance abuse, and the Solvay Award
for outstanding psychopharmacological research on affective disorders from the
American Psychological Association, Division 28.
Dr. Griffiths is a member of the several professional organizations including
the Behavioral Pharmacology Society, and a fellow of both the American Psychological
Association and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He also is
the former president (1977-1978) of the American Association for the Advancement
of Science, and serves on their International Study Group Investigating Drugs
as Reinforcers (ISGIDAR) Committee.
As a leading expert in the field of behavioral pharmacology and drug addiction,
Dr. Griffiths provides consultative services to the National Institutes of Health,
the World Health Organization, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Food
and Drug Administration, and several pharmaceutical companies.
He is the author or co-author of several hundred journal articles and more
than 50 book chapters. His work is published in journals such as Psychopharmacology,
Neuropsychopharmacology, Behavioral Pharmacology, and the American
Journal of Psychology.
Dr. Griffiths’ research and clinical interests include behavioral pharmacology,
caffeine abuse and dependence, as well as drug and substance abuse treatment.
