Thomas A. Hughes, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Tennessee,
Memphis. He came to the University of Tennessee from the University of Alabama,
Birmingham (UAB), in 1987 to participate in the Diabetes Control and Complications
Trial (DCCT).
Dr. Hughes attended medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, where
he received his MD degree in 1975. He received his endocrinology training at
the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and is board certified in General
Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes. Before leaving
UAB, Dr. Hughes established the Lipid Metabolism Clinic at that institution.
Since coming to UT, Dr. Hughes has participated in the UT Medical Group Lipid-Diabetes
Clinics, as well as the Transplantation Clinic, and is the Medical Director
of the Lipoprotein Composition Laboratory.
