Mustafa M. Husain, MD is currently an associate professor in the Department
of Psychiatry, chief of the Geriatric Psychiatry Division, director of the Neurostimulation
Lab, and head of ECT Service at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.
He is a graduate of Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He received his
initial training in the United States at Stanford University, California. Dr.
Husain completed his residency at the University of Southern California, and
continued with research and geriatric fellowships at Duke University Medical
Center in North Carolina.
Dr. Husain has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in national and international
scientific journals, has authored several book chapters, and currently serves
as a reviewer for major professional journals. He is a member of the editorial
board for the Journal of ECT, and a member of the Grant Review Committee
for Neuroscience, Conte Center, and Biobehavioral Brain Research of the National
Institutes of Health.
Dr. Husain is involved in training, education, and research in general psychiatry,
aging and geriatric issues, new applications of lead placement in ECT, and novel
treatments of major depressive disorder including Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS)
and Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (MST).
