Ronald J. Koshes, MD is assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown
University, and a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
He graduated from the George Washington University School of Medicine in 1985.
While there, he received a National Council on Aging Fellowship to develop a
curriculum in geriatric medicine for medical students in primary care. He received
his training in psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and was chief
resident in psychiatry. While in training, he was a Burroughs-Wellcome Fellow
of the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Koshes has held several clinical and administrative positions in the Army,
including chief of psychiatry at Kenner Army Hospital, chief of the inpatient
psychiatry service at Walter Reed, and program director for the military’s
continuing medical education conferences in Europe.
After leaving the Army, Dr. Koshes became medical director for Adult Mental
Health Services for the District of Columbia, and chief psychiatrist for Mental
Health (formerly the DC Institute of Mental Hygiene). He was formerly a guest
scientist at the Walter Reed Institute of Research and the author of more than
fifty articles, reviews and book chapters. He has lectured nationally and internationally
on the topics of psychopharmacology, depression, and chronic mental illness.
