Erik Nelson, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Assistant
Director of the Biological Psychiatry Research Program at the University of
Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his BA from Earlham
College and his MD from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Specializing in the treatment and research of mood disorders (major depression)
and biological psychiatry, Dr. Nelson is an active researcher. His recent publications
have focused on diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders in sex offenders,
bipolar disorder and sex offenders, and psychotic depression. His main research
interests include major depression, psychotic depression, bipolar depression
and antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction.
Dr. Nelson is interested in developing new strategies for the treatment of
depression, particularly psychotic depression and bipolar depression and is
also trying to find effective treatments for sexual dysfunction caused by SSRI
antidepressants. Dr. Nelson was the recipient of the NCDEU Young Investigator
Award in 2000.
